Again, the problems seem to stem from the large database file becoming corrupt on download. I have reverted to using the standard OSM tile server for the time being.

Open, freely available tiles should be distributed via bittorrent or something similar. It's always surprised me that DVD isos can be downloaded via http with no corruption, things have got a lot more reliable. But a 60Gb file, over 4-5hrs via a standard download?

you'll get there eventually. Maybe this can help with faulty downloads?
