To be able to get libportaudio installed on Ubuntu 16.x + please follow the following additional steps :

If you are not sure which architecture you are running you can run the following command :
uname -p

If your architecture is x86_64 then install both amd64 and i386 packages.
For x86_64 you will need one extra step before installing the i386 package :
apt-get install libc6:i386 -y

  1. Download the .deb file that fits your system from either the official repository : http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/pool/main/p/portaudio/
    Or my mirror : https://kp-wiki.org/freeware/portaudio/
    For ARM ( R-Pi 2 B+ ) this is ( Using Debian{/Ubuntu} repo ) :
    wget http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/pool/main/p/portaudio/libportaudio0_18.1-7.1_armhf.deb
    For 32-bit this is ( Using Debian{/Ubuntu} repo ) :
    wget http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/pool/main/p/portaudio/libportaudio0_18.1-7.1_i386.deb
For 64-bit this is ( Using my repo ) :
    wget https://kp-wiki.org/freeware/portaudio/libportaudio0_18.1-7.1_amd64.deb
  2. Install the package
    dpkg -i libportaudio0_18.1-7.1_[armhf, i386, amd64 - depending on the package you need to install].deb
  3. All done! :)

Hi

Thanks for the effort so far!

Still I get the following error message:
python: can't open file 'PyRadmon.py': [Errno 2] No such file or directory
when I try to run the program

Also, when I run the command to generate the config file, and then edit it, the config file is empty. I copied the text in your post, but I am not sure what to expect from the config file when it is created.

In any case, it appears something works because when I run the command to check to which com port my RH Electronics counter is connected via USB, it reports USB0 which I interpret as the connection working, but the software is not (yet)

Thanks!

/Karl

Hey,

maybe you could try the manual on here? https://github.com/thibmo/PyRadmon-Reborn
try the apt-get steps again, then the pip install and then try downloading the most up-to-date PyRadmon.py

Hi

I repeated the installation steps, and I noticed two problems....

First, I had not downloaded the "libportaudio0", but the "libportaudio-deb", I was too focused on finding the right version (amd64/i386). My bad

Second, I could not unzip the file, as the "pyaudio" folder was locked by "root". Maybe I was logged in as root at some critical point.
I circumvented this by copying the locked "pyaudio" folder which created a unlocked copy, to which I could unzip the file.

Then, I could run the program. I only had to change the speed setting to 2400, to work with my "RH Electronics" Mygeiger counter.
It is now logging the same values that are displayed on the Geiger counter. I have not yet recieved any login for submitting data to the web page, so the program is complaining that it can't connect to the server, but as of now the communication with the Counter appears to work well!

Thanks alot for the help!

Hi
I saw just now, I got confirmation in my introductory thread that my account was setup. I was expecting this confirmation to be a reply to the PM I sent about the password, so he actually set me up 2 days ago!

My readings as of now will be fairly uninteresting as I am expecting to set up a outside detector in the time to come, but I will have time now to evaluate the software and also that I can get it up and running on my Raspberry pi 3 that will arrive shortly...

Can you "reset" submitted data, for example when you change the detector type or location?

/Karl
