Google only charges above a certain number of accesses. Problem is, there is no way to set a hard limit to prevent charges. I set up an account with them, had to give debit card details etc, but upon going through the details I found there was no way to set a hard limit. Under normal use, radmon.org would be fine, no bills. But if something happened, or we got 'slashdotted' by a popular article I would get a great big bill. No thanks.

Ok, I've put the first test version live on the main map. Works OK. Comments welcome, there's quite a few rough edges.

At a glance it looks fantastic, far more pleasing than the google map.

The clustering feature makes the numbers readable from a distance, but it does hide unusually high stations. Good thinking to put the toggle button at the top.
Some comments:
- misplaced station: Matthias in Austria is SW of Aftica
- misplaced station: Radmondan in Cardiff is in the English Channel
- borders and country names would be nice as you scroll in; I think the test version did that so it's likely a known 'rough edge'.

Nice work, Dan

Ok I've fixed some annoying things and added features:
- No more annoying map movement. Information window pinned to bottom left. Height restricted for when clicking on a large cluster
- Fullscreen mode
- Experiment mode marker colours
- Binned county buttons (and clustering control buttons for the timebeing)

ToFix:
- Sizes on the front page not quite right ... fixed
- Uncluser and bring stations in warning and alert to front .. done!
- Country names/borders/roads etc ... bodged!

All significantly improved.

Todo:
- Own tile server. This encompasses decent satellite view and drawn borders, names roads etc
Numbercrunching for simple tiles underway. Disks very busy. radmon.org might experience some slowness. Please report.
Reduced the map size to just UK for testing. Probably a good idea to get it working small scale, get the map how I want it, then attempt a world import.
- Customisable maps with location, zoom and auto station select
