You can check out progress with the OpenStreetMap transition here:

It's very simple at the moment, with tiles not served from radmon.org yet. But it's a start!

FINALLY got the markers to show. Coordinate data was being supplied in string format, not floating point format. Whyyyy not give error??

Many of us are getting the "for development purposes" nag line like the attached. Google wants to charge websites if the requests for a map exceed a certain amount. If I understand it correctly, some types of maps (particular APIs) may remain free but those would likely be missing features like scrolling to streets or satellite view.
