Checking user submitted news

I just checked my news article on both Laptop with Firefox and iPad. Logged in, went to my news article which shows "Unpublished" on both platforms. My options are add new comment. On the right I have a gear pull down for print, Email and edit.

I tried using the edit feature where I have tabs at the top of the editor. I filled in tags, then changed Status from unpunished to published. Set start and finish dates both to today. Access is public.
Then hit save.

The article still shows unpunished in a News.

Submit / Publish now working. "Publish" is a working selection in the editor.
I just submitted a update on the UK levels and the sniffer plane.

I saved 2 unpublished test articles, but I can't seem to get them back for further editing/publishing. I don't actually want them, but I can see someone saving an article with Status set to unpublished, going away, then coming back to finish it and publish it. The 'Versions' button looks like it should show past versions of article with the same title, but I don't see how to see all the titles I have saved. Maybe I just need a pointer.
