Hello, everyone!
While sorting stuff in my garage, I found few unused Soviet made STS-6 Geiger counter tubes. So I decided to make environmental radiation monitoring. I have custom built meteostation near my work, so I thought that this would be good place to install my Geiger counter. I made 400V converter and some pulse counting logic and connected that to Raspberry-Pi embedded computer that's controlling temperature, humidity and wind speed. I have two tubes, one shielded, other unshielded, so i can approximately measure both gamma and beta separately. For now I have only CPM units that are not calculated as more relevant data. All these parameters are monitored over SNMP and graphed by network monitoring system. After few days of my new system on-line I noticed radiation spike this Monday. After brief search for other graphs on-line i found this website and it seemed pretty cool that everyone can add their radiation data on map.
Here are some pictures of my station.

Hello and Welcome. Great setup, I'm jealous of your double STS-6 system. :) When can you make me one?

Hehe, as You see, there's place for two more STS-6 that I might install later.
Are You really interested in setup like mine? :D

Absolutely!

It has such great potential for not only discriminating between beta and gamma radiation, but you could use it for coincidence detection too.

If you like you can post here more details, or pm me if you would prefer.
