I have almost completed my Arduino kit based Geiger Counter designed to monitor background radiation and log to this site, Thingspeak and Sparkfun.
The site is still a work in progress and will grow over the next few weeks but some details are here Arduino Geiger Counter with 7 segment displays
Data will be shown here (will add Radmon charts once I have been given access) Kenley Background Radiation
My Geiger counter has space for a SBM 20 tube within the case but would I be better off fitting the tube outside my house on the wall?
How much difference would it make to my CPM, I presume I would pick up Beta as well as Gamma radiation?
How far can I cable the GM Tube from my geiger counter? I guess I would need about 20ft of cable to get the GM tube on an outside wall.

I think the more outside detectors, the better, so go for it! I'm not exactly sure about the 20ft run but it should be OK. From my little knowledge of electrical theory, the high voltages supplying the GM tubes should minimize loss. One word of caution: although there seems to be scant info about it on the web, I have plenty of anecdotal evidence about condensation on the tubes or very high humidities causing erroneously high readings. So, I would advise getting a weatherproof enclosure to mount the tube on the wall, something like an electrical box. Good luck!

It's very nice to see what you've done with the kits.
Great job!

mnrad Thanks for the info I will use some mains lighting flex and order up a weatherproof enclosure.
Brohagan Thanks for that. Your logging kit was easy to setup and instal. I used the instructions off you site for Thingspeak and Sparkfun logging and had the kit uploading in no time at all. I have setup my Radmon logging as well and am just waiting for the site to go active to confirm it works.
