I'm hoping newly manufactured tubes are better than the old ones and there's only one way to find out. I'm not sure what you've got but clearly different to what I have. The Chinese do stuff like this, produce garbage products then improve their offering in later versions. Also, if a market appears profitable new production will start. Pretty sure there is more than one factory making these things.
The Cajoe is definitely as basic as it gets for a counter but I'll try to match the outputs as best I can. Absolutely I would not be using one for quatitative analysis of some radioactive sample I have better tools for that, but for background monitoring at ~30 CPM and perhaps 2-3x that maybe it's good enough.

Interesting information. I should experiment with my J306 then.
Also got the J308-2022. Had another version of the J308 but broke it accidentaly when I made a 3D printed holder that turned out to be too tight.

Definitely worth the effort, the more data points we have the better!Interesting information. I should experiment with my J306 then.

Yes. Someone who asked me to develop a 3D printed holder for the J308 sent me one for the measures. Unfortunately it broke. I got a new one and that appeared the J308_2022. The size of this tube is a little different. The holder that I designed for this tube turned out ok.

I designed also holders for other tubes.

Swapped out the 2017 vintage 4011 tube (which was UV-sensitive) in my GMC-300E+ for an SBM-20. Edited the calibration settings to match. It really didn't want to start after the change and I was thinking it was broken but it was fine after I plugged the charging cable in. Think the battery was just too low.
