Active "users"?

I know email addresses can never be revealed without the owners consent, and I imagine contact requests through the Moderator are burdensome, so could/should there be a policy to automatically email the owner if warnings are present for xx number of days, alerts for yy number of hours, and zero/missing readings for zz number of hours? No opt-out for this minimum, but keep the opt-in for immediate alerts. All so as to maintain overall data quality for the benefit of all users? I know I would want to be informed if my data goes bad (cat knocks sensor off shelf).

Hi Bert490, after reading your posting, are you like saying, have the system email us an Alert via email, sms, etc when radmon hasn't received any data from our stations in some time limit? possibly the PC is down, power lose, etc? its a great idea and I have brought it up before in the past. There have been members that didnt even know they were offline until someone that was on line just happen to know their email address or Dan was brought to light that someone was down and if he knew why or the member happen to check the map and realize they weren't on it any more. I believe Dan is/was looking into this as I believe others were wondering if there was a way to do this. It would have to be on the radmon/server side for this to work since if it was an option on our end, it wouldn't work if it was our system that had a power lose or a PC hangup. Its a great idea and hope its something Dan can do. I know he has a lot on his plate. :)

Yes, exactly that. I guess a feature addition such as this would have to pass a series of decision steps, such as how often things like this happen (requiring manual intervention by Dan) vs. how much time is required to write and test the code. As a first stab at functional requirements, how about:
- upon a warning message (yellow icon) to Radmon, start a user timer,
- increment timer each additional warning, clear it if reading returns to green,
- if timer reaches 1 day (say), send email to user with details and encouragement to post a forum message
- do same for alert messages (red icon), but send email after 2 hours
(I would imagine most users choose to have an alert sent from Radlog immediately)
- do same for data that fails to come in or is zero for 20 submission intervals
- don't send more than 1 email each day.
- maybe allow multiple email addresses per user for this feature.

That's what I thought, Dan is already aware of this request, I'm sure sometime as time permits he'll look into that feature, in regards to a station being down that is. And to this one, it turns Grey now when so much time has elapsed, (no submission), this is the part it could be tied too, (but on the site/server side).
As far as the other alerts and colors, this is already happening, I get sent an email when my level has been reached and is color coded on the map as well. I think that's what your talking about, correct? (user side) :)

I think the current user-side personal email is for red alerts, but not yellow warnings. Maybe it would be an easy change to send warning emails the same way as alerts are sent, to better contain erroneous or unexplained high readings.

The zero or no submission issue or course would have to be handled on the server side. For me this latter case is what I see most with my own station; a Windows restart that I don't know about means no submissions to Radmon until I log into my Windows account. I know I'll discover it on my own in a couple of days, but notification would make for shorter data gaps. I've noticed in the past 2 weeks some zero-count stations and some yellow ones that seemed to be persistent with no explanation. It's possible that they also were not aware of the issue at first. But today there is only one apparent problem station (newly so), so the rest seem to have been fixed anyway, possibly by self-monitoring, possibly by personal PM from Dan or another user that knows the private email address. I suppose this pushes the feature more towards "nice to have" rather than "needed", but I don't know if in the past there were long gaps due to lack of notification. Dan would know best how the coding effort compares to the manual intervention effort. Right now for myself, self monitoring is probably OK due to me being new here, but I can see this dropping off over time.

The 'Dormant' color seems to be turned on after a week of no submissions, and turned off again after 2 weeks of submissions (looking at BeachAssault just now).

I get emailed on the "Yellow" alerts where I have mine set at now and is reached. I got an email last night on a 37cpm reading. Same here on the rest. I was on the site daily when it started up, helping out Dan with some beta testing with the software developments and the type of units I had to get the software running and ready for release. On the Grey out, ya, it takes some time for it to go grey, so I can only imagine the Dan, perhaps, can make it so if 24 hours has elapsed, then an email from the system will be sent out. So when I was on it daily I would notice anything wrong, but as the system and program worked out the bugs, most of the time its just running and check in now and then to see how readings are out there thru-out the members and that's when we/us notice someone is down and gone grey and they might not know it until someone tells them or Dan checks them out and see's what up. I think even 24 hours is a bit much now that I think of it, with me, I'd like to know soon as possible but PC work, forced reboots, windows updates, etc would dictate not so say after 3 hours, sent an email, then again 3 hours later up to 24 hours, then stop sending, no need to tax Dan's system. So those are my thoughts on it, I'm sure there are others, then up to Dan if he can make it happen and if he has the time to look into it. He has done a lot with the software and site this all on his own time, plus family life and his job, so as time permits I'm sure he'll look into it. Would like to see it happen with the .42 release that's in the works now. B)
